More and more computer applications are becoming Web based. As an example of developing a Web-based application (or of moving one from being PC-based to Web-based) we will explore a music application.
In this case, the customer has written a music software program in Turbo Pascal that helps musicians with pitch. This program will be converted into Java and a Web interface developed. Also, the program will be extended from Western scales and music to include Indian music and ragas. Before beginning this project, the student team should search for comparable existing software. Visit the customer's website at http://www.michaelbraudy.com and check out his music.
Finally, it might be interesting to develop a business plan for marketing such a Web application. It is not as simple as selling Windows software because users may need space on a server and an easy way to upload their music.
